I taught history and social studies to Secondary 1–4 (Grade 7–10) students at CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent in summer 2020, as part of the Ministry of Education’s School Attachment Programme for aspiring teachers.
Writing Fellow (2017–2020)
As a Writing Fellow with Tufts’ Academic Resource Center, I worked with students enroled in writing-intensive courses to revise their drafts and improve their writing skills. These courses spanned the humanities and social sciences, including community health, economics, history, and psychology.
Teaching Assistant (2019–2020)
I worked in Tufts’ Department of Computer Science as a teaching assistant for two of its core courses: one in programming languages and another in the theory of computation.
Board Member (2019–2020)
I was on the board of Tufts’ Experimental College, which offers interdisciplinary courses at the cutting edge of higher education, with a focus on collaborative learning. As a board member, I reviewed course proposals and interviewed candidates for visiting lecturer positions.
Government and Nonprofits
Singapore Public Service (2018)
I interned in the industry division at the Ministry of Communications and Information in summer 2018. MCI is a Singapore government agency that coordinates government communications and oversees the communications, technology, media, and design sectors. I contributed to policies on workforce planning and talent development in Singapore’s tech industry.
Lien Centre for Social Innovation (2017)
I interned with the research team at the Lien Centre for Social Innovation in summer 2017. LCSI is a think-tank based at Singapore Management University that conducts applied research and educational programs on social issues in Asia and, in particular, Singapore. I contributed to their research on social entrepreneurship in Southeast Asia and wrote case studies on several social enterprises.
Journalism
The Tufts Daily (2016–2020)
The Tufts Daily is the independent student-run newspaper of record for Tufts University and its host communities. I started out as a features writer reporting on various aspects of student life and eventually served as Executive Features Editor, Executive Social Media Editor, and Managing Editor.
My articles included
- “Far-Flung Homes” (1, 2, 3), a three-part series featuring international students who were the only ones from their home countries at Tufts
- “At Home in the South,”, featuring Tufts students from the Southern United States discussing their upbringing and identity
- an extended examination of Tufts’ student diversity and inclusion centres, as well as companion pieces focusing specifically on the Asian American Center and Africana Center
- a special feature on alumni who found their significant others through the Daily
- the occasional front-page breaking news or obituary
and many more — see my full archive.
